If a program calls EscapeE and waits for it to complete, it can obtain the return code using the Windows® GetExitCodeProcess call. The code is normally zero.

A positive return code indicates an I/O or system error; a negative number indicates an internally generated error return code. In the case of an error when running in continuous mode or when the /X option is supplied, there will be an entry in the ERROR.LOG file, see Command line option /ERRORLOG.
