XPS and Windows Vista™

The XML Paper Specification - XPS - is a new open-architecture format, and the default output format for Windows Vista™.  The output is paginated and may contain JPEG, TIFF, PNG and text elements with good colour support.  Documents may be digitally signed.  The format is well suited to printing, viewing and archiving, making it a good standard to choose for general purpose use.
